FIGHT FOR OUR FLAG!!
Our Rebel Flag is once again in danger of being taken away! It appears that school board member Mickey McGuire has nothing better to do with his time than to protest our school symbol! I have emailed Sis Hall, she is AC's principal now and asked her exactly what we can do to help and who we should email. As soon as I hear back from her I will post it to this page, so we can all help fight to keep our precious Rebel flag flying high at AC! In the meantime, Julia Bormes has sent me a email suggesting we email the Floyd County Times to protest and here is that email.......web@floydcountytimes.comThanks so much to Julia Bormes and Randy Bentley for emailing to let us know about this matter! Let's all round up that great Confederate spirit and pride and join together to fight these narrow minded people! Confederate flag use at ACHS questioned EASTERN — Touching on a subject that has fostered much debate throughout the nation in recent years, Floyd County Board of Education member Mickey McGuire said during Monday night's meeting at Duff Elementary School that he felt it was "inappropriate" for area schools to use the Confederate flag as part of their school symbol. "I'm not a black person," McGuire said, "but I think that in other areas, such as Louisville, for example, that people there would find using the Confederate flag inappropriate." Chelsie Cordial, an Allen Central High School student and member of the school's JROTC program, addressed the board, defending her school's right to fly the Confederate flag. "It's a statement of how we feel at our school. We don't use it as a racial slur. We don't look at the Confederate flag as a sign of hatred. To us, it reflects our history as a school ... It's about our school, it's our pride, it's our flag," she said. McGuire commented to his fellow board members that he believed that student body representatives of the high school had been asked, at at least one event, to not display their school flag and the Confederate symbol. The ACHS student acknowledged that she believed that statement to be true but did not report further on the subject. McGuire continued, saying that he believes it to be "very short-sighted" on the part of the school board "to teach our children to fly the Confederate flag with pride." "I believe it would be deemed very inappropriate in the majority of America's workplaces," he said. Supt. Paul Fanning said that he intends to investigate the matter of ACHS school groups being asked to not display their flag at outside functions and that he would report back to the board with his findings. This was sent to Julia Bormes from Kim Shepherd and Julia kindly sent it to me! Please copy and paste this and email it to the Floyd County Times or write one in your own words! Just please act on this! From: Julia Bormes Comments: Received this from Kim Shepherd and thought it was a good idea: These gentleman have no idea what they are talking about. The flag has been there longer then they have. They have no idea what the flag means to the people of ACHS. The flag to me means courage, strength, and relentless pride. The men who carried the flag during the war never quit. When one man, who carried the flag went down in battle, another would pick the flag up and carry on in battle. That's what it does for people who need strength. When I see the flag it reminds me of where I was from and the pride I have of being from ALLEN CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL. The school board needs to concentrate on other things other than this. They need to think of the kids who go to the schools in Floyd county and keep the drugs and weapons out of the schools! And focus on the quality of education the kids receive. If you agree with this, copy and paste this above message into a email and send it to: web@floydcountytimes.com Kim S.Proud graduate of ACHS (1983) I agree and would also like to say that if it comes to a vote, let the citizen of Floyd County vote, instead of just the school board! Dec. 9, 2006 WOW! This subject has hit a nerve all over the world! I have gotten a email from Italy voicing support for our fight! Billy Bearden a SVC member (Sons of Confederate Veterans) has offered his help and advice. Just type his name in a Google search and visit his web site, you'll be amazed at how wide spread and how far this ridiculous fight to ban the Rebel flag has gone! Here is part of my email to Paul Fanning and my letter to the editor that I sent to the Floyd County Times... |

I just want to know how can Mickey McGuire take a symbol that stands for courage, bravery, dedication and pride and turn it into a symbol of racism and hate? Our flag-Old Glory, the stars and stripes-represents the greatest country in the world! It represents the land of the free, the home of the brave, liberty and justice for all! It reeks with courage, determination, pride and HONOR! Many a brave soldier has fought and is fighting for what our flag stands for. Many a soldier has gave their life to defend our freedom, our liberties and to protect this great nation! Yet, this beloved symbol is the main flag used by the KKK! Does this make it a symbol of racism and hatred! NO IT DOES NOT! No matter how anyone abuses our countries flag, it is with great pride that we wave it high! The Rebel flag and Confederate mascot are no more a symbol of racism and hatred than is our great countries symbol! It's no more a symbol of racism and hatred than the Black Panther that Prestonsburg uses for their school symbol! NO I AM NOT RACIST! I truly believe that God made us all equal and when he looks at us he don't see any color, he just sees our hearts. I know both good and bad people of different races! I also believe, that when we look at these flags we should not see what someone tries to make them stand for, we should see the true meaning of these symbols! I would like to suggest to Mr. McGuire that he concentrate his efforts on more important things, such as getting drugs out of our schools, convincing teachers to care more about our children's education etc and leave our flag alone! EVIL has been done in God's name, but that don't make God evil! And, evil done behind the Rebel flag or "Old Glory" does not make them evil either!!!! |

Dec. 10, 2006 Billy Bearden just sent me this, you've really got to check this site out, you won't like what they say about Allen Central.... Billy deals with stuff every day and he really expects this to go national by next week! So, it looks like Mickey McGuire will have a lot of support! But, we'll also have a lot of support to! I'll keep you updated as I find out anything! |
|
Well, if you've been following any of this on the internet or in the papers, you already know that people are really downing us for upholding our flag! If you have'nt seen that article yet you can check it out here... It looks as if we're going to get to keep our flag and mascot for now. Mickey McGuire made the statement that he did'nt expect any changes in the near future! But, added that eventually the school system will have to take responsibility for it! But, symbols of the Rebel flag have already been banned from many school systems. In some schools students are'nt even allowed to wear clothing bearing the Confederate flag! The protest of our flag is far from being over! Here's a few of the demeaning comments I found on the internet.......... To continue to display the Confederate flag at a school these days — more than 140 years after the end of the Civil War — is irresponsible, said Steven Voss, a political science professor at the University of Kentucky."You don't have to buy that the Confederate flag means anything bad to recognize that it hurts people's feelings and should be done away with," Voss said. "Continuing to embrace the Confederate flag symbol, knowing what it means nationwide, is not responsible for a government-funded organization to do." However, neither suggested taking away Allen Central's symbols by force. Doing so would be unfair to the students who just want to exhibit school pride, said Voss. Yet another... Even more... But, check this out on the "Appalachian News-Express site" Finally someone on our side!! |

OK, I've decided to admit it to all of you--I am racist!! I'm very racist against ignorance and stupidity! And, I don't care what color skin it hides behind! I'm sure lots of you have seen the crap written about us, it's really not anything we've not heard before and won't hear again and again. I just think it's amazing how people can call us hillbilly hicks, uncultured, ignorant, WE have no breeding, we're lazy, manipulative, violent and incestous and the name calling list goes on and on! I've read things like "Well, what else can you expect from people from that area"? Things like "That area always has been stuck in the past"! And, that list also could go on and on! I got a big kick out of reading some posts on a blog. They were amazed by the fact that AC had 6,300 students, all crammed into one school, because of course the politics here are that our cities or counties do whatever they have to do to save money etc etc More proof positive that a lot of the people that know so much about us have'nt even taken the 5 minutes to do a Google search on our school to find out that it's a great school!! If they could quit the name calling and insults for 5 minutes they'd learn that AC has 427 students, not 6,300! They'd learn that it's also a Accelerated School, that AC's dropout rate is considerably lower than most of the other state schools, they may even learn that AC was one of 13 schools statewide that meet the No Child Left Behind goal in 2006! Of course, none of that matters, since we're all just ignorant hillbilly hicks! Thank goodness WE ALL still have the freedom of speech and unlike some other countries WE ALL are intitled to our own opinions and that includes ME! It is my opinion that YES I will agree we are sort of stuck in the past, it's also my hopes and prayers that we STAY there to a certain extent!! This area is blessed to not have "gang bangers" on every street corner--of any race! This area is blessed to STILL be able to leave doors unlocked in broad daylight! This area is blessed to STILL have people that are'nt to afraid to stop and help someone when their car breaks down! We are blessed to be able to walk down the sidewalk and have total strangers say, HELLO! We're blessed to NOT have areas you're afraid to drive thru at night! This is another list that could go on and on! Unlike some of these places that are so proud to have "moved into the future", yet afraid to walk down the street at night, help a neighbor in need and have multiple locks on their doors! Now remember, I'm still not even talking about the Rebel flag!! So, what exactly am I talking about? Well, I'm talking about all these people that want to stereotype us for the area that we live in. If you're one of those "lucky" big city people, that's moved into the future and are so much ABOVE us, then you'll have the human decency to overlook my poor hillbilly hick vocabulary, but YOU are one of the reasons the old saying "The pot calling the kettle black" is still very true"! I guess maybe some of you city folk are'nt familiar with that expression and don't know the true meaning of it, so let me explain....... That's like someone that's overweight calling someone els fat! That's like someone that's a theif calling someone else a theif! It's when you are insulting or condeming someone for being or doing exactly what you are--Get it?? In this case I'm using that good old saying to refer to Racist's calling other people racist! People are calling us uncultured, ignorant, hillbilly hicks, they say WE have no breeding and WE are racist! Yet, they're not intelligent enough to realize that they are RACIST! Racism is'nt just about a persons skin color, it's also about stereotyping a person just because they live a certain lifestyle or because they live in a certain area like all these people are doing! And, just for "THEIR" information...No, I did'nt marry my cousin and believe it or not, my brother is'nt the Daddy to any of my kids!! I know it's hard to believe, what can I say I like to live on the edge! HAHAHAHA THOSE people, yes I am stereotyping them, I did admit to be racist against ignorance. I'm already "out on a limb" might as well go all the way! Those people, don't really know anything about us, they just know we live in eastern Ky and in their minds that's a bad thing! They'd probably never believe that I have came home dead tired and turned around and went straight back out again to take a friend to work so he did'nt have to walk -- a friend who by the way is black! Or, that another one of my x-neighbors was one of the few people in my neighborhood that I'd actually loan or give stuff to when he came knocking on my door -- another friend who by the way is black! Yes, where I live is almost all white neighborhood, and we're so racist that my x-nieghbor that moved to be close to his sick mother to help her, still comes back to visit friends! He sure could'nt wait to get away from us racist people! Ok, so what's my point? Well, my point is that if any of these people really knew us they'd know that there is a whole lot less racism in this area than there probably is where they live. But, from some of the stuff I've read online and heard in my lifetime, I'm glad they don't know us, because that would mean that we knew them and I sure don't want to personally know any of those people!!! Ok, now for our flag!! As most of you probably know the Justice Resource Center from Louisville have came to voice their opinions. They've met with Paul Fanning in a private meeting and have been put on the agenda for the next school board meeting in January! I will be posting the date, time and place of that meeting for any of you would like to be there! Rebels rest assured we are not alone in this fight. I've been in contact with several members of the Son's of Confederate Veterans and they are doing what they can to help in this cause! Also, for those of you that don't know....the David school is boycotting AC's use of the flag by refusing to play at a upcoming scheduled ball game! Funny, I don't seem to ever remember any school including the David school having a problem playing AC until now! I'd hate to think that maybe certain school officials are influencing this decision to get publicity for themselves! I also don't ever remember students from other schools complaining about our mascot. But, I'm sure there's no way that some of these students are protesting because of the rivalry between schools on the ball court!! It is however kind of strange, that until this issue came up again and went world wide getting all kinds of publicity, that no school ever refused to play ball with AC! Does anyone besides me think that's a weird coincedence? David school not wanting to play AC is fine, that should be their choice. As it should also be AC's choice to have the mascot and school symbol they want to have! Here's a recent article you may be interested in AND, if we want to read racist comments, slurs and insults, we'll do a Google search. This site is for REBEL'S! So, for those racist people that are'nt even alumni or students of AC, but who want to sign our guest book and write a bunch of racist crap in it--don't bother! You're wasting your time, I will not post it to the site, it will be deleted for the worthless Bull Sh.. that it is! |

What exactly is Coleman's agenda? Well, it appears he's not as interested in anyone's rights as he is in making money!! Check out what Billy sent me.... Right before I'd gotten sick, I'd found out that his son had had lots of problems with drugs, but did'nt get to do further searching on the matter. Thanks to Alicia, Ronnie's wife we now have more details on that subject! Seems like Coleman is spending so much time worrying about his bank account that he's not worrying about his son!! Maybe all the problems his son has had have been a cry for help and attention from his father!!

Hey Rebel's just wanted to update you all on what's going on around here! You may have already heard all about it on the news and if you're checking Ronnie's site you may have seen it there. The school board meeting went well for us, they voted to hand the issue over to the site based council which is in favor of keeping our flag and mascot! But, we all know this is far from over! The David game that had been boycotted was back on, but after discussion between the David principal and Sis Hall, it was agreed to postpone the game for now! It's really sad but it seems the main reason for postponing the game was the fear of someone getting hurt. Some of these people are now spending their time sending threatening and hateful letters to the students. It seems that attacking the flag in a decent matter is beyond some people, they have to resort to attacking teenagers!!! The David principal held a news conference last Friday and said some pretty interesting things! The players have never had a problem with Allen Central or our mascot AND the taunting incident never happened!! One of the players even said they were looking forward to the game!! Sounds like this "taunting" thing was just something dreamed up to agitate the situation! Coleman has filed a complaint against the David school and he also filed one with the State Board of Education. They will be addressing the issue at their Febuary meeting! Below are some articles that you may want to check out and keep checking here and on Ronnie's site for more news--there's a link to his site at the top of this page.

The truth about the boycotted game between Allen Central and David school came out not long ago. But, for some reason it seemed to get neglected in most of the recent news stories! So, here's a few stories you all might enjoy! It's so nice to see the truth in print! I guess sometimes when you do stuff for the "publicity" it's not always good publicity you get, looks like in this case it blew up in his face! Is'nt a coach suppose to be a mentor for their team?? Someone they can look up to and even turn to when they need help?? To have a good team a coach has to earn the respect of the players. I for one can't imagine any respect here! I can imagine that's it's uncomfortable and even a little stressful for the David ball team now! These people are using and manipulating our kids. Throwing them into the public eye for their own gain! Defintiely something we all want to remember if we ever see these names on a ballot at election time!! As you all know the battle to save our flag is still going strong. I know a lot of you would love to help, but are unable to help physically. You can still email people and voice your support no matter what state you live in now. I'd originally asked for any donations, but that's on hold for now. |

The ballgame between David and AC was finally played to a limited audience. In fear of people trying to agitate the situation, the game was only open to the players immediate family members. I'd honestly hate to see how much "hate" mail AC has gotten and would probably get furious if I read the nasty comments. I know I've really gotten pissed off at some of the racist stuff that I've gotten on the site and in my emails. But, the nasty mail AC has gotten is targeted toward teenagers! Some people can surely stoop pretty low! And, get this---from what I've read David school has also received "hate" mail! I guess them coming forth with the truth that AC has never taunted any of them, that they have never had a problem playing ball with AC and that they DID NOT vote to boycott the game earned them a bunch of nasty letters to! Tiffany Owens has been raked over the coals thru this. I was told by a very good source that she is a wonderful young lady, she's very kind, good hearted and a great student! Neither Tiffany nor any of the students from either school has deserved the treatment they've gotten. So, I've got a idea, I think it's past time that these students got some good mail. Let's write them some letters of support! Let's let the ball players at David know that we think it was very courageous of them to stand up and tell the truth. Let's let Tiffany know that not everyone is against her! They've gotten flooded with "hate" mail, so now let's flood them with some nice mail!! It's not going to hurt to post these addresses, I easily found them online, so anyone else could to. If you'd like to voice your support for these kids please write and just put in care of the school. Allen Central High School David School |

The students at Allen Central overwhelmingly voted to keep our rebel flag and mascot!! No suprise though, in all the polls and petitions done on this issue the majority of people voted that the Rebel flag was'nt offensive or racist! We've won the battle to save our school's symbols for now at least, but this is going on around the USA and lots of places have already lost the battle for the Rebel flag! Don't be suprised if this is far from over. Virginia publically apologized for slavery! They apologized for something that no one living today had anything to do with and apologized to people that have never been enslaved! We've been accused of living in the past here in eastern Ky, but it seems to be everyone else that's living in the past and not letting go. Slavery was a hideous, inhumane thing and I nor anyone I know condons it, but it's time to let go of something that happened so long ago and move on. At one time us women were'nt even allowed the privelege to vote, should'nt we receive a public apology from our government for that? There's been lots of injustices done during the creation of this great country, but thank God most of them no longer go on in this day and time. Racism is one that sadly will probably last forever, that's just a hard cold fact! When you have millions of people living and working together, there's always going to be people that don't like someone! In a perfect world everyone would get along, but I know very few families that get along with everyone in the family! I can't even make my kids get along all the time and no group or government will ever make all the people of a country get along either! We're all just human and we're all so different, removing a flag or any other symbol will not end racism! Racism will only end when it dies in the hearts of people! If I get any more news about our flag and mascot being in danger I will post it to this page and you will be notified thru the ACHSAlumni site! |
